About Firedance
Firedance makes FirePod, a speaker that gets the smart lights you already own moving with your music.
How it started
My first software job was on ECG machines. A lot of the work came down to one thing: find each heartbeat in a messy signal and work out the rate. Music has the same problem. DJ software has been doing beat detection for years, so this isn't a new idea. But after doing it at work every day, lights that follow the music stopped being a someday project. I love live music, and the part I always missed at home was the lights hitting with the song. So I started building it.

How we test
Everything we say about lights comes from our own test room. It has more than fifty smart lights from WiZ, LIFX, Govee, GE Cync and Sengled, bought off the shelf like anyone else's. When a bulb won't pair, drops changes or shows a different red from the one next to it, we find out why and write it down.
That's where our updates and brand guides come from. If a post says something worked, we've seen it work.
What we share
FirePod is built on a lot of open source software, so we give back where we can. We release tools we've written on GitHub, and we've written a fix for BlueZ, the Bluetooth software most Linux devices use, after we found a bug while testing with iPhones. We're sending it to the BlueZ project. See everything we've shared.
Where things stand
FirePod is in development and coming soon. Sign up for updates and we'll email you when it's ready, or follow along on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn. We document the hardware build on Hackaday.
