A Halloween treat: freedcamp-cli and more
Our last open source release of October is freedcamp-cli, for managing Freedcamp projects from the terminal or an AI assistant. Plus a look back at the month.
Happy Halloween from Firedance. We’ve spent October sharing some of the tools we use to build FirePod, and we’re finishing with one more.
freedcamp-cli
We keep track of our work in Freedcamp, a project management app with a generous free plan. freedcamp-cli lets you manage projects, milestones and tasks without opening the website.
- From the terminal: list tasks, add new ones, move them along and leave comments.
- From scripts: every command can return data that other programs can read.
- From an AI assistant: it includes an MCP server, so AI coding assistants can keep tasks up to date as they work.
It’s free under the Apache 2.0 license.
October’s releases
If you missed any, here’s everything we’ve shared this month:
- macos-audio-tap: read the volume of whatever is playing on a Mac.
- matter_dcl: turn Matter device numbers into real product names.
- share-cards: make social images at every size from one design.
- kicad-irdrop: measure how much voltage a circuit board loses on the way to the chip.
- kicad-fab-tools: turn a KiCad design into a circuit board order.
- kicad-skew: check that memory signals on a circuit board arrive together.
- freedcamp-cli: manage Freedcamp from the terminal or an AI assistant.
We’ve also written a Bluetooth fix for iPhone users and are sending it to the BlueZ project, which is used by most Linux devices.
Planning a Halloween party?
Orange and purple lights, turned down low, go a long way. For more ideas, read our guide to party lights that sync to music. And if you’d like your lights to follow the music on their own, sign up for updates to hear when FirePod is ready.

kicad-fab-tools: circuit board orders, checked
Ordering a circuit board takes a stack of files and careful checking. kicad-fab-tools turns a KiCad design into an order and catches costly mistakes.
-
Music sync and the ECG: measuring a beat
A heart monitor and a music-synced light show solve the same problem: turning a noisy waveform into beats and a rate. Where the two match and where they differ.

kicad-irdrop: how much voltage does a circuit board lose?
Copper isn't a perfect conductor, and a processor can tell. kicad-irdrop works out how much voltage a KiCad board loses between the power supply and the chip.
