Govee bulbs and strips bring a lot of colour for the money. They also have a few habits worth knowing before a party.

Why Govee works well at a party
Govee makes some of the most colourful lights we’ve tested, and the strips are great for lighting a wall, a TV or the edge of a shelf. When we finally got our router sorted, the Govee bulbs were the first lights to pair with Matter, first time.
What to know before you start
Govee lights fade on their own. Every change you send slides into the next colour over most of a second instead of snapping across. That looks smooth, but it means a Govee light can’t flash as fast as a WiZ bulb. FirePod plans its changes around that fade, so Govee lights still land on the beat.
Strips are slower than bulbs. Our Govee strip takes a bit more than one change a second comfortably, so it works best for the bigger moments in a song while the bulbs handle the quick stuff.
Once or twice, a Govee light stopped responding after we restarted everything else. Switching it off and on at the wall brought it straight back.
Adding Govee lights with Matter
- Make sure the light supports Matter. Not every Govee light does, so look for the Matter logo on the box.
- Add it in your smart home app with the Matter code from the box or the Govee app.
- If it hangs at “Setting up…”, check your router’s IPv6 setting before trying again.
Govee with FirePod
Many Govee lights have a microphone and a music mode built in, but they only move Govee lights, and they hear the room, not the song. FirePod plays your music over Bluetooth and moves your Govee lights together with every other Matter light you own.

Do Govee lights work with FirePod?
Yes. Govee lights that support Matter work with FirePod, together with lights from other brands in the same room.
Do I still need Govee's music mode?
No. Govee's built-in music mode only moves Govee lights. FirePod moves every Matter light in the room to the same song.
Why won't my Govee light pair with Matter?
Check your router first. Our Govee bulbs stalled at setup until we changed the router's IPv6 setting from Auto Detect to Auto Config and restarted it.
