Sync WiZ lights to your music

WiZ makes up most of our test room. They're quick, they're easy to find in stores, and they look great when they follow a song.

New to this? Start with our step-by-step guide: how to sync smart lights with music.

Why we like WiZ for music

About twenty of the lights in our test room are WiZ bulbs. They keep up with fast changes better than most of the brands we’ve tried, which matters when a song has a busy beat. Colours are bright and full, and the bulbs are easy to pick up at most big stores.

WiZ is made by Signify, the same company behind Philips Hue. We found that out the hard way: some bulbs we’d been calling Hue were WiZ all along. If you’re not sure what you have, the box or the app will tell you.

What to know before you start

WiZ bulbs don’t dim as far down as some other brands. Even at their lowest setting they’re still fairly bright, so a light that drops a little between beats can look like it isn’t moving at all. FirePod takes WiZ bulbs down further between beats than other brands, so every hit still shows.

After a WiZ bulb joins a new app or controller, it restarts. Give it a minute before you try to control it, or the app may say it can’t connect.

Adding WiZ bulbs with Matter

  1. Make sure the bulb supports Matter. Look for the Matter logo on the box.
  2. Put the bulb in pairing mode by switching it off and on at the wall until it pulses.
  3. Add it in your smart home app with the code that came in the box.
  4. Wait a minute while it restarts, then it’s ready.

If the bulb is already in another app, open pairing mode from that app instead. It gives you a fresh code to share with the next one.

WiZ with FirePod

The WiZ app has music features of its own, but they only move WiZ lights. FirePod plays your music over Bluetooth and moves every Matter light in the room together, so your WiZ bulbs can follow the same beat as a Govee strip or a LIFX bulb.

Questions

Do WiZ lights work with FirePod?

Yes. WiZ bulbs and lights that support Matter work with FirePod, alongside lights from other brands.

Can I keep using the WiZ app?

Yes. A Matter light can stay in the WiZ app, Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa while FirePod runs it for the music.

How do I put a WiZ bulb into pairing mode?

Switch it off and on at the wall a few times until it starts to pulse. Then add it from your app using the code in the box.
